I bought this game a day after its release, and liked it right away (I mean, it IS SC!).
I was overjoyed that the custom character feature returned, but was quite confused about how to use it at first. But I got used to it, and now prefer it, since you can get rather creative with outfits, adjust the voice to your liking, adjust the body to your liking, and the hairstyles are nicer. It took some time before I realized the the pieces you use affect your stats in Special battles and the Tower of Lost Souls, so I ended up making different versions of my three mains; one set focused of upping the stats as much as possible, and the other focused on making them look the way I want them to. My brothers and friends have all made a lot of characters, some of them OCs, most of them cosplays. Some characters we've made are: Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, Amy, Princess Sally, Krystal, and most recently, Trucy Wright. I can't think if I missed any, but whatever...I wish I could post screenshots, but I unfortunately lack a video capture device, and taking pictures of the screen just doesn't work, especially with an old fashioned glass screened TV. If you wanna see 'em, my X-Box Live name is LinksLove.
The Tower of Lost Souls is the epic, lengthy single player mode in this game, and it starts off nice enough, but I've been stuck Ascending on level 30 for some time now...I need to figure out how to perform different moves or something D: Still, thats how I've earned lots of gold and items, so its worth a shot until you're cursing at the TV.
Really, the most irritating aspect of the game is the Star Wars characters. Ever since I found out about them, I was bordering outrage. Why them? They don't belong in the SC universe at all, except the whole "good side, evil side" thing, but every game has that in some respect or another...And then when you do plays against them, they're really cheap. Yoda especially, since he's short, so high moves don't hit him unless he's in the air at the right time, and he can't be grabbed at all. The Apprentice is tough...his moves are quick, powerful, and he has the Force moves, which are also cheap. Dunno anything about Vader (wouldn't have gotten the PS3 version even if I had a PS3, anyway).
But ultimately, its a good game, and one of the few fighting games that I've ever liked.
